Pool equipment repair in Los Angeles starts at the equipment pad, where a pump, filter, heater and a run of valves and wiring keep your water moving, clean and warm. When one piece fails, the symptom often shows up somewhere else: a heater that will not fire because flow is low, or cloudy water that is really a pump problem. We find the actual cause before replacing anything.

We are licensed and insured to repair and replace pool equipment and the above-ground plumbing that connects it, and our owner handles the diagnosis personally. Each type of equipment has its own page below with more detail.

What's Included in Pool Equipment Repair

  • Pumps and motors. Bearings, shaft seals, capacitors, impellers and full replacements through our pool pump repair and replacement service, plus variable-speed pump upgrades.
  • Filters. Cracked tanks, clamps, O-rings, grids, cartridges, laterals and valves. See pool filter repair.
  • Heaters. Gas heaters and heat pumps that will not ignite, shut off early or heat slowly, covered under pool heater repair. A healthy heat pump typically delivers 3 to 7 units of heat for every unit of electricity it uses, so a struggling one costs you money. (Source: U.S. EPA WaterSense)
  • Lights. Dead, flickering or leaking pool and spa lights, and LED light upgrades.
  • Automation. Control panels, valve actuators, sensors and apps, and new pool automation systems.
  • Salt systems. Cells, flow switches and control boards, and full saltwater pool conversions.
  • Automatic cleaners. Suction, pressure and robotic models, handled by our pool cleaner repair service.
  • At the pad. Leaking unions and fittings, diverter and check valves, and the switches, timers and breakers that run the equipment.

Signs Your Pool Equipment Needs Repair

  • Grinding, screeching or humming from the pump, or a pump that will not start.
  • Water on the pad from unions, the filter clamp or under the pump.
  • Filter pressure far above or below its usual clean reading.
  • A heater that clicks, shuts off or never warms the water.
  • Error codes, a flickering light or a breaker that keeps tripping.

Our Diagnose-First Equipment Repair Process

  1. Hear what happenedWhen it started, what changed and any codes or noises you noticed.
  2. Test the whole systemFlow, pressure, voltage and water chemistry, because one failing part often causes symptoms in another.
  3. Show you the causeWe point out the failed part in person, or with photos if you are not home.
  4. Lay out the optionsRepair against replacement, with the equipment's age and current efficiency rules in view.
  5. Repair, test and documentWe do the work on your existing gas and electrical service, run the system, check for leaks and note what was done.

Pool Equipment Repair vs. Replacement Options Compared

OptionBest forTrade-offs
Repair the failed partNewer equipment with one worn part: a seal, capacitor, O-ring, igniter or valveLowest cost now; an aging unit may soon fail somewhere else
Replace a major componentA sound pump housing with a dead motor, or a filter with a good tank and worn internalsMust match the existing equipment; replacement pump motors now fall under efficiency rules
Replace the whole unitEquipment near the end of its life, cracked housings or discontinued partsHighest upfront cost; newer models run more efficiently and some qualify for rebates

Age drives most of these decisions. The Department of Energy estimates that pool pumps last about 4 to 7 years on average, depending on the type (Source: U.S. Department of Energy), and that pool heaters average about 11 years. (Source: U.S. Department of Energy) A noisy bearing in a two-year-old pump is a repair; the same noise in year six is a replacement conversation.

What Affects the Cost of Pool Equipment Repair

  • What failed. A seal or igniter is a small part; a motor or control board is not.
  • Make, model and age. Parts for older or discontinued equipment can be scarce.
  • Plumbing changes. New equipment with a different footprint may need the pad re-piped.
  • Existing gas and electrical. We work on what is already at the pad and do not run new gas lines or circuits, so we confirm what your pad supports first.
  • Rebates. Some utilities offer rebates on efficient pumps.

Pool Equipment Repair in Los Angeles: Local Factors

Inland heat is hard on pool equipment. Woodland Hills averages about 115 days a year at 90°F or hotter, compared with about 26 in downtown Los Angeles, according to NOAA's 1991 to 2020 climate normals. (Source: NOAA NCEI) Pumps there run longer and motors run hotter. Wind adds its own load: Southern California averages about 32 Santa Ana wind events a year, and each one packs skimmer and pump baskets with debris. Why choose us

Why LA Homeowners Choose Us for Pool Equipment Repair

1 company for everything

Cleaning and Repair From One Company

Your pool service and your repair company are the same licensed, insured business. There is no finger-pointing between the person who noticed the leak and the person who fixes it, and no second company learning your equipment from scratch. If we already service your pool weekly, we have been watching the pad long before anything breaks. And when a repair turns into a replacement, the same company handles that as well.

6 readings per visit

Chemistry That Protects Equipment

Unbalanced water shortens equipment life. The CDC notes that pool pipes and equipment are more likely to corrode when pH drops below 7.0. (Source: CDC) High calcium does the opposite kind of damage, coating heater exchangers and salt cells with scale. Our weekly reports include six readings, so corrosive or scaling water is caught and corrected before it shortens the life of your pump seals, heater and salt cell.

7 days a week

Open When Equipment Fails

Equipment has a habit of quitting on the hottest weekend of the year. We answer 7 days a week, 6 AM to 10 PM, so you can describe the problem, text a photo of the pad and get on the schedule without waiting for Monday. Often we can tell from that first conversation whether it sounds like a part or a replacement.

FAQ

Pool Equipment Repair FAQ

Can you work on any brand of pool equipment?

Yes. We repair and replace equipment from the major residential pool brands, and we tell you up front if parts for an older model are no longer made.

Do you install new gas lines or electrical circuits?

No. We repair and replace equipment on your existing gas and electrical service, including the switches, timers and breakers at the pad. If new equipment would need more than your pad already has, we tell you before you buy anything.

Why won't my heater turn on when the pump is running?

Heaters have pressure and flow safeties that keep them off when water flow is too low. A dirty filter, a clogged basket or a weak pump is often the real cause, which is why we test the whole system before replacing heater parts.

Do I need to be home for an equipment repair?

Usually not. If we can reach the equipment pad and the breaker panel, we can diagnose and repair it, then send photos and notes on what we found and what we did.
